Gary MacCready
Gary Mac Cready’s art has been featured in many exhibitions including shows at the Art and Ethics Center, Pottsville, PA, The Gallery, Schuylkill Haven, PA, and The Art Gallery, Santa Cruz, CA. in June 2001, his work was selected for a two-artist exhibition with the internationally acclaimed artist Shozo Nagano at the Art and Ethics Center, Pottsville, PA. Gary is an artist in residence for the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts and is a member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.
Gary grew up in Minersville, PA, and studied in the Monterey Bay area of California with watercolorist Dave McGuire and also with Howard Ikemoto while studying at Cabrillo College. His interest in art and painting began when he was attending the University of Pennsylvania, fueled by very frequent trips to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Watercolor paintings of gentle mountains, contemplative seascapes, and abstracts; these are the results of lasting impressions of many years of travel. Â Deep feelings of beauty were nurtured in the heart of the artist by many years of traveling through most of the United States.
Gary gained prominent international recognition as a national recording and touring artist in the field of Jazz, appearing on the top 20 National Jazz Airplay charts during his tenure with the ensemble Northwind in 1981 through 1987. His music was reviewed in the Washington Post, DownBeat, Jazziz Magazine, and Cadence Magazine, among others. His music was played on hundreds of radio stations in many countries of the world, and the music was featured on television and airline programming.
