Penny Rug Workshop

A penny rug is a traditional decorative mat rooted in early American folk art, made from wool or fabric scraps cut into simple shapes—originally traced from an actual penny—then hand-stitched together using classic embroidery techniques like the blanket stitch.

In this class, you’ll create your own charming penny rug while learning the basics of wool appliqué and hand stitching. Choose from a curated palette of wool felt colors and work with time-honored motifs—hearts, crosses, leaves, and florals—to build a layered design that feels both historic and personal.

This is a slow, meditative making experience—perfect for beginners and experienced stitchers alike.
