Lorraine has been working with fibers in some form since she learned to knit from her grandmother and mother when she was 10 years old.  She began weaving baskets in 1998 when she took a basket weaving class with some friends and absolutely loved it. At those same friends’ urging, she started teaching basket-weaving classes shortly after!  Over the years, Lorraine’s baskets have been accepted in many juried shows, including the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, State College, and the Christkindlmarkt, Bethlehem.

A 2017 recipient of a PA Council of the Arts Folk Art internship grant, Lorraine had the opportunity to work one-on-one with Patty Dillman, Sabinsville, PA, learning how to grow, harvest, process and weave traditional willow baskets.

Having recently retired, Lorraine added weaving to her repertoire of fiber arts skills.  She learned to weave first on a rigid heddle loom and then transitioned to 4- and 8-shaft floor looms.

Lorraine enjoys experimenting with a variety of materials, techniques and styles across the fiber arts. She often applies felting, knitting, weaving and basketry skills and materials interchangeably.

A member of the Board of the Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven, PA, Lorraine has been working to promote the Center since early in its inception. She has been a Walk In studio artist since 2012 with her focus primarily on the fiber arts.  She is a founder member and president of the WIAC Fiber Arts Guild and administrator of the WIAC Art 4U initiative. 

Having retired in 2017, Lorraine was an educator for over 25 years.  In addition to her fiber arts, Lorraine enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.
